Hi there everyone,
Its been sometime since I last posted here, and Bea was badgering me to put something up when she heard that I had bought some sarees/saris. I have always been captivated by them, and when I read a post of an Indian crossdresser described how they made them feel I had to have one. Being wrapped in 18 feet of silk is just almost indescribably feminine. It effects the way you walk, stand, sit and move in general. You are constantly aware of how it is draped on you and how the pallu or fall is riding. It truly effects one psyche when you are encased in one. Other than a wedding gown, I haven't found any garment more all-encompassing female, just the epitome of feminine. Then there is simply the luxuriousness of silk, my, my, my. I studied some youtube videos and looked at some guides on how to properly drape/wrap a sari on oneself, and that is indeed an art unto itself. With every fold, pleat and layer of the sari, I could almost feel myself transform. I also bought a couple of salwaar kameez suits which are pretty much the everyday wear of many Indian women---very comfortable and remarkably fem for having pants...lol
All of that said Monica Graz story "Housemaid in my 50's" that really flipped a switch for me. (thank you Monica ;) ) Once I was dressed in my sari, no matter how wonderful it felt and looked, something didn't seem right when I looked at myself in the mirror. I needed to look more like a real Indian woman, for everything to seem/feel perfect. I really did this in the "imitation is the greatest form of flattery" vein. Hopefully no one takes offense. I bought some darker foundation and a couple of black wigs and set out to see if I could look okay. Well the first time I looked in the mirror, it was right out of one of Bea's or Monica's story's I simply couldn't believe that it was me staring back. The difference from my white male self and dark Indian woman couldn't be much more opposite. I had some trepidations posting some of the pics here, but this is me as "Ranjana" hope you enjoy, please let me know what you think--good or bad.

Hi Carrie, thanks so much, if I can encourage you to try a sari for yourself, you'll see that it really is hard (but wonderful) to describe how it makes you feel.

Here is one of the videos on how to properly drape a sari if anyone is interested. Take care and enjoy!
Still get me in two frames of mind when I saw this post:
ReplyDelete1. Thankful for your Post!
2. Jealous as hell!
I'd still like to say - again - that you are looking so happy en femme. I see LOTS of pictures of males dressing up. Not all of them have your looks of course - I just wish that they looked happier. Isn't that what dressing up is supposed to many anyone feel?
Bea
Thanks so much Bea, when I first started out I had a little of the deer in the headlights look, but it didn't take very long before my enjoyment started shining through.
ReplyDeleteI was hopeful that Monica might comment as I am very interested to hear her thoughts as her story had a big influence on this look.
I might post a couple more saree pics soon, take care all, Tammie/Ranjana ;)
Do one thing everyday that scares you.
